Review of fraction concepts (writing fractions and comparing them)
We worked in small groups to order fractions on a large number line taped on the floor.
We also took note on Interactive Notebook page 21 over comparing fractions
1) If the numerators are the same, compare the denominator. The larger the denominator, the smaller the fraction.
1/3 > 1/5
2) If the denominators are the same, compare the numerator. The larger the numerator, the larger the fraction.
2/3 > 1/3
3) Compare the fraction to the benchmark fraction 1/2.
Look at the denominator. Ask yourself, "what is half of that number?" If the numerator is less than half the
denominator, the fraction is less than 1/2. If the numerator is greater than half the denominator, the fraction is
greater than 1/2.
